HISTORY

Washington State Bank has been proudly serving the Washington and surrounding communities for more than 75 years.

Washington State Bank was organized in 1947 under a charter issued by the State of Illinois. Upon subscribing the necessary capital, a group of prominent businessmen and farmers in Tazewell County officially opened the bank for business on Saturday, January 17, 1948. The original officers of the Bank were E. O. Schabinger, John A. Roehm, John Henry Holtzman, Frank C. Heiple, Jr., Rae C. Heiple, George A. Brunnenmeyer and Chester A Birkett.

Open House of our current location on September 7, 1969.

Members of the Heiple family were the major stockholders in the bank since chartering it in 1947. In September of 1966 Robert N. Zulian and James M. Jackson purchased majority stock in the bank from the Heiple family. Bonnie Zulian continues to be the majority stockholder and an active board member.

Washington State Bank first opened its doors in the old Denhart Building (originally 101 Commercial Square) on the square in 1948. Despite a remodel and improvements in 1967, the bank was still without a drive-up window and adequate parking. As the community prospered, the directors made the decision to make a move to a new location, 1110 Peoria Street in September of 1969. This location has been the home of the bank since that move.

As Washington State Bank has grown and expanded, it has continually updated its banking services and systems. Similarly, as the financial needs within the community have changed, the services have been expanded and improved to meet the ever-changing needs of the customer base.
